The biggest racket ever!
by flygurlual at Citysearch
I asked for a technician to come and put freon in my unit and then an estimate. After he finished, he gave me a written estimate for a new unit and told me that he insisted I make the check for cash and he'd knock $50 off the price of freon. He told me this would "get me through the summer." That was fine, I said since I would be purchasing a new unit by then.
The next day I realized my unit was blowing hot air! He had done something that now it wasn't working at all! When I called the company again to have them send a tech out, the supervisor was very rude. She told me they'd have to charge me again since the girl did not write up that it was a service call. She also said it was my own fault if I made the check out to cash. I told her I don't know what your employee's are doing. Don't you know the people that work for you? She then had the nerve to ask if he came in one of their trucks. I gave her the description of the guy including the tatoo on his leg and told her, he'd see me in court! I tried to place stop payment on the check but it was too late. She called back later to tell me she'd spoken to the owner and he was very angry and would "help me any way he can." I told her that I am on occupational, about to have surgery and I have children and a disabled brother that I care for. I had to sleep with my family downstairs. She then told me the owner was "out of town and so was the technician, who she'd named. I was driving down the street and who do I see driving their car today? The technicican!
I suspect this woman, the technician and the girl scheduling appointments are all involved in the scam. I am not waiting for this owner to call, because I think she is going to have someone else call since they are all being exposed.
I will be seeing all of them in court and I will say this is the biggest racket! Stay away from this company! I will be speaking to the attorney general as well!
Incompetence Meets Sabotage: The UAAH Chronicles...
by JakeinFla at Citysearch
We recently had a double whammy with UAAH. Our 1 year old Rheem unit's "breaker" died on Thursday prompting a telephone call to UAAH around 9:30pm. Having left a message requesting a call back A.S.A.P. No one responded. After a long, hot, humid night I called the next morning at 9 a.m and spoke with Jennifer requesting they send someone out a.s.a.p. Given the unit's warranty expired in May, there would be a service charge and part charge. With no other options, I authorized the service call out of desperation. The visit was scheduled for 10am - 2pm. Jennifer was good about calling me back two times to inform me the service tech was going to be late. Upon eventual arrival he immediately determined the breaker on the 1 year old air handler unit had died requiring replacement. He stated a 1 year old unit's breaker should never die that soon and called it in. The part itself ranges from $50-$75.00. at most warehouse sites. The charge from UAAH? $275.00!!! Out of sheer desperation on my only paid day off in months I authorized the exorbidant charge. 1.5 hrs after he leaves he calls me back stating the parts warehouse had closed early and a replacement couldn't be obtained until Monday, due to the July 4th holiday. I immediately called the home office and demanded a resolution. Eventually they found a like unit and removed the breaker from someone else's "soon to be installed" unit I assume. At Approximately 5:30 - 6:00pm the part was re-installed, and payment was made. The serviceman seemed decent enough, but the costs billed by his employer are akin to thievery in my book! Fast forward 2 days... The prior weekend we called UAAH for a cleaning of my townhome's AC duct and system under the guise of a coupon stating $69.00 for duct cleaning. Forget the fact the guy left leaving all the AC vents disassembled, losing the screws in the process requiring us to call my handyman at a rate of $50.00 per hour to replace them in a secure fashion...days after his visit, a once cold, relaible central AC unit is now dead! That's right folks..No cold air being emitted from the unit, with no air at all being felt at the vents! $440.00 was the total amount paid for essentially breaking our functional AC unit in what appears to be either extreme incompetence or an attempt to generate additional revenue for the company by rupturing coils intentionally during the "cleaning" process knowing in a matter of days the unit will be completely dead. The add insult to injury this person offered us a discount to do the same job on the side, and gave us his personal cell phone number. That's rich! Destroy your other unit for a discount? Don't think so!!! So to recap, I would NOT advise you to patronize this company. They are staffed with either incompetent fools with little to no certification information retention or out right thieves who prey on people's naivity and ignorance of AC specifics coupled with the desperation of being without air on a hot, humid South Florida day! Either way...we spent $715.00 in the matter of a weeks time to repair a brand new unit, and to have a functional unit sabotaged\broken. Thanks UAAH! - One Un-Happy Customer...
- Pros: None come to mind...
- Cons: Lack of professionalism, overpriced fees...

I woke up Sunday morning to an exceptionally warm house. The ac fan was on, but it was not putting out cold air. I had heard the commercial on BIG105, and it so happened that I needed emergency service
soon after. Jonas arrived within 90 minutes, and walked me through a very unfamiliar process, but by the
time he had explained that I needed new compressor wire, I was that much smarter! Being a single female homewner, we are often times at the mercy of service companies. Often times you don't really know
what you need. You just buy what they recommend. Jonas was very knowledgeable, and I had my air on within minutes!! I highly recommend Universal Air.

i just wanted to send a quick note to say thank you for helping me with my a/c. your staff was very proffesional and courteous. i really appreciated your staffs' ability to be there promptly, handle the problems presented and have the necessary tools and experience to fix it. summer time in south florida is a bad time to be without air, especially with the humidity. luckily for me, my dad had received your flyer. even though my service wasn't just a service check and i had more than one problem; your staff was able to fix the problems and i was still able to take my boys to the movies on time. special thanks to fritz for a job well done.
god bless

I called universal air and heat on 5/27/2008 to get an estimate on a new air conditioning unit the girl who answered the phone was very helpfull in recommending to me the best a/c unit for the money I set up an appointment and someone was at my house within 45 minutes I ordered a new 4 ton 15 seer unit and asked how soon can it be installed they said today I was so happy that I would have a/c by the end of the day so I sighned up with them they had a problem getting the unit because the supply house didn?t have the 15 seer unit in stock I thought I was going to be without a/c again but the owner Mike Thompson called me and explained the situation he was very polite and told me he couldn?t get the 15 seer that I ordered at first I was discouraged but he assured me that I would have a/c for my two children that have asthma he was so good to me and my family when he asked me if he could upgrade me to a 16 seer two stage unit that was in stock at no additional charge I didn?t know how to thank him so I promised that I would go online and write this review He kept his word and my family was cooling within 6 hours so I kept my word and wrote this review thanks Universal Air & Heat & Mr. Thompson I will recommend you to all my friends and keep your little sign in my front yard for the whole summer thanks again.

Rip off!
by webreg at Citysearch
Overnight the contactor on our A/C unit outside shorted out causing the unit to continually run even though the air handler inside the house was off. I called Universal Air in the morning and they sent a technician out in the afternoon. After removing the access panel from the outside unit, he quickly diagnosed the bad contactor and informed me that he can replace it for $250. He also said I probably need Freon for another $100. Being somewhat handy and seeing that there was no way that part with labor can cost that much, I quickly did an Internet search for pricing. I found the part at a local supply store for $28! I told the tech. no thanks and he gave me a bill for $34 for the service call.
It took me about 2 minutes to remove the old part; 20 minutes round-trip to pick up the new part and 2 minutes to install it. In less than 30 minutes and for $30 I accomplished what they were going to charge me $250 for!
This was actually the second time I had them out to the house. The first time they charged me $300 to clear the drain line and clean the coil. I now feel as though I was ripped off then as well.
Both times, the technician was adamant that I need a whole new system and they would do the job for around $3,500!
- Cons: Rediculous prices!
