ONe of the nicest in Fort Lauderdale
by mystyred at Citysearch
If you like a nice classy hotel and do not like the chains... this place is for you! And... its right on Las Olas in Downtown Fort lauderdale. It's close to some of my favorite places...like "The Grape" wine bar... and Planet Massage, where you can get the best massage on the planet!
Conference-ready facilities in a setting of old-style luxury.

The Scene
Right on the Las Olas strip, this hotel was built in 1936 and renovated in 2002. The 217 rooms are divided between two spaces--the original six-story building and a newer 12-story Executive Tower. The latter in particular caters to business travelers with more than 10,000 square-feet of meeting and banquet space. The hotel is also popular for weddings, partly because of the enormous banquet space.
The Details
Princess-for-a-day treats include a horse-drawn carriage that stops outside the hotel and trots down Las Olas. Dining is quite high-end in the old-boys-club-style Grill Room, one of two restaurants on site; it offers a selection of fine cigars and Cognacs. The Wine Room boasts a 1,500-bottle cellar. An elaborate afternoon tea is served every afternoon. The Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi makes stops behind the property.

I guess the strongest commentary and vote of confidence I can give any Hotel is my own reservation. I travel extensively, business and the Riverside Hotel, is my choice for either an intimate weekend or as a recommendation for visitors. The Riverside is central to the best of South Florida, beaches, shopping, entertainment. The Staff is exceedingly accommodating and friendly and The Grill Room, at the hotel offers the finest dinning in the county. Located on Las Olas Blvd. the hotel gives you access to the best Shopping and people watching in South Florida (think South Beach without the weirdos). The rooms are large, clean and the new expansion offers great views, however the intimacy of the old wing is still my favorite, reminiscent of a British lobby out of the 40's. Treat yourself to suite 201 or 202 (my favorites) with the largest balconys I have ever seen. Enjoy
- Pros: Location, Romantic, Excellent Service
