They say they are insured when in fact the dispatchers themselves will tell you there is nothing they can do about the drivers and they have problems all the time with the drivers stealing customers belongings :( The Westin Diplomat was able to pull security tapes to show us getting into the Friendly Checker for a ride to the Airport. The tape showed the driver and showed my husband's $500.00 coat being placed in the front seat -- however, my husband was at the trunk and I was not yet at the cab. We didn't realize we didn't have it at the airport until the cab pulled off and we called immediately only to learn that the cabbie wouldn't own up to having the wool coat and the Friendly Checker Taxi service assumed no responsibility. You do have the right to deny a cab. Ask for the next one -- avoid FRIENDLY CHECKER TAXI at all cost! It will be in your best interest.
Lost item recovered. My many thanks to the cab driver and phone representatives who recovered my laptop, ipod and nook from the backseat of a cab last week in Ft Lauderdale! I am forever grateful of the honest driver who returned these items to me! It is a rare occurance in the world to have this type of service. What a stress reliever!
Dont loose something in their cabs you will never C it again. If you loose something in one of these cab
Great service and knowledge of area!!!. My family and I arrived from Windsor Ontario for a vacation in Ft. Lauderdale. When we arrived a the airport we were put in a blue and white taxi called Friendly Checker Taxi. We were staying at The Westin Diplomat Hotel and asked our driver to take us there. The driver was very friendly and knowledgable about the area we were staying in. He even told us what the taxi fare should be when we got to the hotel and to make sure it is around the same price when we return to the airport. He recommended some great resturants in the area and attractions for the kids. This driver was a great ambassador for Ft. Lauderdale. We took other Friendly Checker Taxi's while on our vacation and the service was very good. The service was so much better than that of big city cabs such as New York or Philadelphia.
Quick, reliable service. My car broke down and was out of service for a week. When I called friendly checker they were very quick to pick me up. I used the company all week and thought the drivers were nice and professional. I will use them again.
dishonest. I arrived to the air port. I wanted to go to my place of employment, 2/5 miles away. As is customary I went to the taxi first in line #594. It was a checker taxi. I put my bag in the trunk, went in and when the driver asked me where I was going and found that it was only 2 1/2 miles away he started to complain and complain and complain. I told him that if he did not want to take me to eave me I would take the next.. He finally took me but was complaining all the way. When I arrived the miter read 8.90. Because of his complains I only hand him 10 dollars. He demanded 12.00 and said it was the minimum price for a trip. I told him he did not deserved one penny of tip for his complains and he insisted and demanded 12.00 dollars. Finally I said yes but he had to sign a receipt which he did. DO NOT USE CHECKERS TAXI, ASKED FIRST WHAT COMPANY THIS IS.
avoid. went form the weston diplomat to the cruise terminal instead of taking # 1A cab went up to Hwy # 95 cost us 69$instead of about 30$ when we complained the driver said it was because #1 was closed to the port even though we drove past it and could see cars on the road.
Poor Service Experience. When we returned to Ft Lauderdale following a cruise, we used a taxi to the Doubletree Galleria on East Sunrise Blvd. Cab #616. We had mapquested the route from the port to the hotel and knew the approximate time and distance (figuring 15 minutes). This cab driver took us inland (avoiding the simple route north on Hwy 1) to the turnpikes in a circular route that consume 35 minutes and cost $40. Another cruise associate was in the cab next to ours and had the same costly experience. The next morning, we took a taxi to the airport, straight down Hwy 1 for 20 minutes and $22. As the VP of Marketing for an electronics company in the Northwest, I have instructed my sales team to avoid using this taxi company. Given the importance of tourism to Ft Lauderdale, such a taxi experience does not make for goodwill.
