Eat with Caution – Had dinner with my son there. Ordered 2 calzones, one sausage and one ground beef. My son's meal was perfectly fine. My ground beef tasted funny. At first I thought it was the sauce, then I thought it was the cheese. Finally realized it was the meat. Gave my son a taste and he confirmed that it tasted funny. Waitress came over and I quietly (because there were other people in the restaurant and I didn't want to raise a fuss) told her the food tasted funny. She apologized and took the plate away. When she returned she told me that "he" tasted it in the back and didn't find anything wrong with it. She was going to remove it off my bill but "he" said that I ate half the calzone and I had to pay for it. "He" claims he makes it fresh every morning.
First off, my issue was not with the waitress, she was very pleasant and apologetic and she tried to do the right thing.
My first problem: doesn't matter that "he makes it fresh every morning"... if the meat went bad the meat went bad.
My second problem: If a customer isn't happy with the food I would, as an owner/chef, come out and speak to them. Not send an underling (no offense to the waitress),
My third problem: If the customer is not happy with the food then offer to split the difference.. charge me for the half I ate. I paid full price for half a crappy tasting calzone.
My fourth problem: I purposely tried not to create a scene. I don't believe I should have to stomp my feet and scream to get my way when I know I'm right. This "he" person should recognize that.
This businessman doesn't know how to run a business.
I would eat with caution here. I don't hold against them that the meat when bad, that can happen to anyone. They SHOULD be more conscious of the freshness of the ingredients they use but I believe in humans being humans. What I hold against them is the attitude that they are right and to hell with the customer. The waitress tried to do right... and she got a tip that acknowledged that. But I will never order food from here again and would discourage anyone from ordering. If something goes wrong you WILL NOT get satisfaction.
