In Short – Founded in 1956, Mai-Kai is a visual marvel that's also one of the country's last true tiki bars. It boasts a thatch-roof exterior and multiple dining rooms--each decorated in hard woods and bamboo, as well as an outdoor garden with a waterfall. Nightly hula numbers and daring torch dances. To accompany the dazzling floor show, the kitchen offers an enormous seafood menu. Dishes range from sushi to lobster bisque.

Mai Kai rip off

by Shannon K at Citysearch

Decided to celebrate my mom's 50th bday here. We called to make a reservation for 10 and there was no problem. Once we arrived there and tried to park we were charged with a 5$ parking fee which they never explained over the phone. Second it was happy hour at the bar. I went to order a drink in the bar for faster service and so I could receive the half price. Once my friend and I were in the bar a worker came up and hounded us about ordering a drink and then returning to the dining area. Food was ok, I asked if i could share a meal with someone and the girl told us they were way to big entrees to share. We shared anyway and it was plenty. Then we brought our own cake and they charged us a cake cutting fee. This place was good but definitely not worth the money.

  • Pros: Cool Show
  • Cons: Charge for everything!

My Retirement Destination!

by TonyArnold at Citysearch

Everything about this place screams Vanishing Americana. Go, right now, before one more pre-Disney landmark disappears forever. Polynesian floor show, seventy-five entrees, fifty exotic drinks, vintage Tiki decor...it's all here, and you don't have to fly to the Bahamas to escape!

  • Pros: A Menu as Vast as the Restaurant! Beautiful Wahines!
  • Cons: Except, it's Five Hundred Miles Away from Me...Aaargh!

They seated us quickly, The staff was amazing never leaving you wanting for any thing! I had the lemon chicken it was so good. The drinks are tropical and also amazing. The show leaves you wanting more. when you step in the front door you leave Floirda and enter the big island. I loves the Mia Kai I will do again !

  • Pros: Best dinner and a show in South Florida
  • Cons: That the show had to end !

The Details on Mai-Kai

Know Before You Go:

Back in the '50s and '60s, Mai-Kai was a booming nightclub. Though it's quieted down, it's still a vibrant party spot with all-ages appeal.

What to Drink:

Tropical drinks are wisely grouped according to bite--nonalcoholic to strong.

Save Money:

Everyone pays $9.95 show cover charge, but for $45 you can grab a three-course dinner special that includes the cover.

When to Go:

If you're bringing children, avoid Saturdays. Not only is it the busiest night, but it's also the one night when the economically-priced kid's menu is not available.
