The Scene – A throwback to the private clubs of the '50s, when men were men, meat was meat, and the ruling class favored shades of beige, Black Orchid is swank, hushed, and frequented by well-to-do, well-preserved persons of a certain age. The tone is rarefied and exotic. You're far from the maddening crowd. – – The Food – Feeling nostalgic for upscale Cold War cuisine? Care to sample a bird of a different feather? Special Occasions

I bring people to the Black Orchid for special occasions. Their birthday, new job, anniversary or other important milestones. It is pricey but a good value considering the service, the food and the musician softly playing in the middle. The lobster bisque is like no other I've had, cowboy steak (when a special) incredible but my favorite is the lobster dish. Bananas Foster for desert. Yum. I have not had a bad meal or service at Black Orchid

I have heard of this resturant when I was a teenager and I always heard from my parents who are frequent diners there have always enjoyed the Black Orchid either alone or with friends. It is an intimate experience, they have always said. And now, I recently visited the Black Orchid as a surprise dinner by my husband and it was amazing! We plan on dining there for my upcoming birthday!

The Details on Black Orchid Cafe
Oenophilia:
A big wine list swoops from a '94 Louis Roederer Cristal to decent Chianti, Shiraz, and solid American vintners like Stag's Leap and Cakebread, but don't expect any bargains.
All That Jazz:
A jazz guitarist picks out soothing favorites; just don't sit too close to the speakers.
Whazzat?:
Ask your waiter to clarify fancier-than-thou menu terms: "Chinese field lobster" turns out to be crayfish; "wild African game pheasant" is Orchidese for guinea fowl.
