Canyon Cafe. This is a tiny restaurant, and probably why there is such excellent quality control. The menu isn't big, but they do everything great. The best prickly pear margaritas on the planet and hands down my most favorite dessert: white chocolate bread pudding. I've eaten dinner elsewhere and gone to Canyon for dessert. The wait staff are career waiters, not young sofla trendies acting like they're doing the customer a favor. This place gets packed and the wait can be mighty long, but keep those prickly pears coming and you won't notice.
What? It's TOO LOUD!. Canyon has good food, but not really worth the gourmet prices they ask and it was too loud for conversation at my table.
Take a culinary trip to the Southwest at this popular Fort Lauderdale cafe..
In Short
The L-shaped dining room features low lighting, wrought-iron fixtures and a distinct lack of Southwestern kitsch. The bar, home to a large selection of aged tequilas, takes up a wall near the entrance. Start with the smoked salmon tostada, which blends smoked salmon in a habanero reduction. The habanero, one of nature's hottest peppers, only packs a small punch in the subtle sauce. Entrees include a surprising amount of seafood for a landlocked cuisine.
Overpriced for the food quality. They may have the best margarita in town, but it does not matter if you came for food alone. The food was tasty enough, but not assembled in the way I would have expected based on other reviews. The dishes seemed awkward and overly trendy. On top of that, the cuisine was very confused. They seem to advertise southwest, but the Asian fusion overtones are quite apparent, so do not come expecting any customary Southwest dishes. The service for our table was very unattentive and lacked emotion for such a place. For the price tag, one could find a much more pleasing dinner for both taste and service. On the plus side, the ambience was pleasant. However, the wait staff decked out in black shirts and camo pants only served to add to the restaurant's identity crisis.
always impressive. I've been going there for 6 years and the chef never fails to impress with his updated menu and those "tried & true" dishes. I'm not much for sweets, but I'll always make sure someone in my party has a creme brulee for me to sample :-)
Great food and bar.
Can't say enough about this place. Our favorite restaurant in Lauderdale. Small but not overcrowded, great food, great service and crowd.
Do not miss the prickly pear margaritas. But watch out they go down smooth but hit your head when you get up.
