What People Are Saying About Himmarshee Bar & Grille

In Short – A sprightly spot with lofty leanings, it adds a lot of chic to its playful mood. High ceilings and metal girders have an industrial edge, but the decor is done in colors of walnut and rattan and offers a cool welcome on overheated days. Fresh flavors abound, as well as plenty of skill at the grill. Salmon is a tender filet with just a bit of peppery bite, awash in a gently seasoned broth.

MY FAVORITE FOODIE RESTAURANT IN FLL
by Lyza at Citysearch
Two words for you: Stuffed Dates.
Okay, I've always got more than just 2 words to say (about everything.) and this is no different. HBG is like walking into a San Francisco foodie haunt... a place where all the chefs and serious Gourmands in the city go to savor the best and brightest.
Always my first choice.
Overly rich food
by LauderdaleLad at Citysearch
This is a high-end, great-looking place with good service and knowledgeable staff. Too bad the food is overly complex. We had 2 different appetizers and 2 different entrees, and they all suffered from from the same problem -- the use of too many highly-rich or overly-sweet ingredients that overpower your palate. The dishes were inventive and high-quality, but we could have shared a couple of appetizers and been just as happy.
- Pros: Good service, great ambiance
- Cons: Overly-rich, needlessly complex dishes
Great food, great service, unfortunate tipping policy
by gtk at Citysearch
Had dinner here on a Sunday night, which turned out to be "Guys Night Out" - half-priced entrees for unescorted men (aka no women). Had the salmon - excellent! - and the chocolate torte - tasty and not oversized. The service was attentive and warm. However, when the bill arrived, the experience was somewhat marred by the automatic addition of 18% gratuity. I understand this is common in southern Florida but the menu clearly states, "18% gratuity for parties of 6 or more". Thus, I was surprised to see it for a solo diner. I was planning on a 20% tip, due to the excellent service, but the misleading gratuity policy convinced me to stick with their 18% instead. Enjoy the food here but be don't be surprised about the tip.
- Pros: Food, service
- Cons: Stupid auto-gratuity on the bill
Martini List Is Just The Begining of the Fun...Great Food
by contempler at Citysearch
My family was bubbling over the summer fun martini list (we loved the watermelon and cucumber) but my wife (an expert in her own right) said the Cosmo's were the best ever. The meat dishes (pork chop, lamb) and the fish (encrusted yellowtail) were particular stars of the evening. Everything was cooked to perfection Just one of the more pleasant evenings of our vacation.
- Pros: Great place to relax with cocktails, followed by a great meal
- Cons: a little pricey
Himmarshee Bar & Grille, Still a Cool Spot
by neobl at Citysearch
I've always loved this place...Himmarshee is under new ownership and there seems to be a new energy there too. The neighborhood is a bit more clubby late at night, but the restaurant continues to be
a great spot for foodies (and hipsters) alike. They have a bar next door called Side Bar.
The other night we were treated to an amuse of salmon fries with a wasabi aioli that was incredible. The chef at Himmarshee is a food artist! I think he is Morrocan. Some of his combinations sound wacky, but when you taste them, the flavors are fantastic. For instance, I was never a big fan of dates (the kind you eat--well, the kind you can eat that aren't human), they stuff them with bacon and gorgonzola cheese...sweet with a bite.
Lunch is good too, I especially like their hamburger or the pasta dish and it seems to be a place where the movers and shakers go during the day--"where the elite meet to eat and pick their seats"...
But seriously, I've recommended Himmarshee to a lot of friends over the years and it's the one place
I never get a bad review back from.
- Pros: Always something new, their menu changes daily. Very cool interior design.
- Cons: Can be a little noisy--hard surfaces top and bottom
