Tips for Sugar Reef

One of the Nicest Restaurants on the Boardwalk...

I think the Owners are French...& that's why it's so Good...

recommended by our Host at Villa Sinclair, Sugar Reef is a wonderful place to have Lunch or dinner directly on the Boardwalk & enjoy the view of the Beach, the Ocean & People watching... Service is excellent like the food & the price are very reasonable...

We Love Hollywood Beach...We will be back next winter...

Wildly excessive markups on the wine. Even though we have never been that impressed with Sugar Reef, we have eaten there a number of times because we live within walking distance. Last weekend we tried it again. It was a very warm night and once again, their air conditioner was underperforming. Every time someone opens the door the entire restaurant is flooded with warm humid air. Appetizers and entrees were not bad, but not remarkable by any stretch. I ordered a bottle of wine that I am familiar with - I had that same day bought a bottle at Total Wine for $11.50 - and understood from the start that I was getting ripped off because the restaurant price was $38.00. What irritated me though was later finding out that an 18% gratuity was automatically added to our bill. In other words, the $11.50 bottle of wine cost us $45.00. I understand restaurant markups of course, but that is a bit much. Won't be back.

Best entrees and service.. The perfect place to join friends for a fabulous meal and great atmosphere. The Jamaican pork dish is fantastic. Finish the meal off with a yummy dessert and some espresso. You can find a better place on the beach!

best place on the boardwalk. i had the true pleasure of dining at sugar reef for my birthday at the end of january..the food was outstanding. It was not a very busy evening,we had no reservation, that was not a problem. we were seated right away..the waitress was polite, pleasant, and knowledgeable. the food was marvelous.prepared to the precise specifications. my husband likes his steak VERY RARE, and I had the herb crusted grouper and I asked the waitress to suggest a wine for me. she suggested a bordeaux that was perfect., along with beautiful presentation and amazing flavors it was an evening and meal that i will never forget. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food , great service, spectacular view and an evening to remember. when next i go to south Florida I intend to return to sugar reef for another memorable evening

Casual, yet elegant French Caribbean oceanside bistro stands out among the Broadwalk's pizza joints, fish houses, t-shirt shops and bars.. In Short
Since 1996, Sugar Reef has charmed visitors and locals who cherish the imaginative cuisine and setting. Tanned diners might arrive by bike to the restaurant, which opens directly to the sea and sand. Situated amidst brightly colored murals and mosaics, the tables are set with white paper. Food ranges from burgers to a tropical bouillabaisse with coconut milk. Other options include Jamaican-style pork loin and escargot in a green curry sauce with lemongrass.

Beer Taste on a Champagne Budget. You know, I really don't mind occasionally dropping 180 dollars on a good dinner for two, but when I do so, I expect that the bread is not pre-sliced, almost stale, so-so, store-bought kind like you find in Winn Dixie. I expect that there aren't boxes of bottled water, cooking supplies and other kitchen necessities lined up to the side of the dinning area. I expect the waitresses to know how to pour a bottle of wine. I expect.... The bottom line is that the food was good, the ambiance was poor (at best) and the price was out to lunch. My impression is that this place is basically an upscale oceanside seafood shack that put a french twist on everything and decided to charge an arm and a leg. I may be inclined to try it again during a "regular" night, but definately not again during a "special" night.

Can't pass on by. YOu must try SugarReef! I have been four times and it is always outstanding. Casual beach front atmosphere. Family owned and run, service is excellent and the wine list and servers are extremely knowledgeable. So many choices I recommend the duck and the salmon. The snapper is alright... A must!!!
